At your own pace

As a typical person who travels by local train in mumbai to work daily, people would be knowing the frentic pace at which the things move on stations and in train. At the epicentre is the dadar station which is the heart of local trains in mumbai which acts as crossover between western and central mumbai. It attracts about a million people daily including the people travelling in long distance trains. People have no time to halt as they are busy looking to catch another train. Stopping and waiting for 5 minutes looks like an hour with things happening in fast forward. Any outsider from any other part of the world would be awestruck by the sheer pace of the city. And the trains give the perfect example of pace  where people are fighting for every inch of space in local trains to go to their respective destination. Once you start the journey you just want to get off to your station quickly as possible during the peak hours as for once you may lose your patience to stay in the train the

FDI in Retail: Boon or Bane

As Indian Parliament has passed its verdict for FDI in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, the Indian people are left amazed at how political parties that were opposing FDI have either not voted or have voted for the government. The popular opinion among the Indian public was against the FDI as government could not solve doubts relating to FDI of common people. There are also doubts that this will lead to foreign control of our economy. The government has defended its move by stating that it will help India as there will be investment from foreign retail chains. But, if that is the case then why has there been no real attempt to bring back black money, since they also have names of people that have their money stashed outside India. Also, the fact that these retail chains will generate jobs is also flawed as it will be market based and if there is a case of recession, they might as well cut jobs. They are not non-profit organization that will make investment and not make profit. They will o

Greenland losing tonnes of ice every year

In a recent study carried out by Gravity Recovery and Climate Exchange (GRACE) it has been concluded that Greenland is losing about 200 tonnes of ice every year since 2003 which could have impact on sea levels. The latest analysis by scientists studying the changing mass of the island using satellite date backs the previously reported trend without including the last two years. GRACE retrieves the changes in mass on the surface of the Earth by detecting subtle increases and decrease in gravity, which is directly related to the mass below the two orbiting GRACE satellites. Roughly, 200 million tonnes of ice is the amount needed to fill enough rail road coal cars to as encircle the earth. The study was carried out by Princeton University’s researcher Chris Harig and Frederik Simons. They applied a new method to analyze the GRACE data. They found that during 2003 and 2004, mass loss was centered along the eastern coast of Greenland. From 2005 and 2006, mass loss dropped in the nort

Will INDIA ever be Superpower?

Hi all,          Firstly,a very happy and prosperous New Year to all of you. Last year was wonderful year for India and provides even greater opportunities combined with dangers this year, with world stearing down another recession soon. India as always is looking strong due to its people, the kind of mind it has in every sector and the kind of diverse culture it has. But still there is many things to ponder upon. Everyday, many of us must have heard somewhere someone saying that this country is going towards destruction, partly due to the kind of people ruling our country and due to unequal distribution of wealth.          Many of people around the world at the top  corporate positions of the world are Indians, but its not good to see that most of them are not in India but are working out of India with top software companies hiring a lot of Indians, and more than half of doctors in UK & US are Indians. It's nice to see that Indians are making their presence felt in every fiel

Beginning of Universe,Life & its center!

There are times in our life,we feel why are we here? What brought us here? The essence of our being dates back to Amoeba that were the first beings found on earth. These questions also have a link with, how was our universe formed? What made it? Why was it made?  So. beginning of life and universe are in fact two sides of same coin. Some may link it to the spiritual sense or some may refer to scientific points of view or from an atheist's point of view.      The beginning of life may not only be due to mixture of various elements that made our body, there may be more things to it.Our view of universe and its beings are far from complete. The instruments and equipments may be able to see outer space but are still amateur to provide even a fuzzy display of our universe. Most of scientist are trying to find extraterrestrial life but we are still unaware of our self, our earth. What are conditions that caused for the life to grow first and then to survive, multiply and to be destroyed
